Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival – Fun for Everyone

Anyone headed into the Sneads Ferry/Topsail Island area during the second weekend in August should be sure to head on over to the Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival. The festival is a family-friendly affair that is sure to please kids of all ages and from all walks of life.

Playing

Beginning with the parade, there are plenty of things to see and do for people interested in attending and/or participating in the festival. One of the most popular activities during the festival is the shrimp heading contest. This contest is open to guests in various age groups. It involves removing the heads and legs from the bodies of as many shrimp as possible in a specified period of time. When the final whistle blows, the person within the age group, who has “headed” the most shrimp wins.

Beverages

Another popular feature of the Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival for thirsty attendees is the Beer and Wine Garden. Each year, there is a special bottle of wine rolled out just for the festival. Just be sure to grab your bottle early. These limited edition wine bottles tend to sell out quickly. Also remember to bring your ID. Everyone is “carded” at the festival when buying alcoholic beverages.

Eating

Now it wouldn’t be a proper southern festival without plenty of good food to choose from. The Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival does not disappoint. Food vendors bring a wide variety of popular, portable food choices to keep even the most selective palates pleased throughout the day.

Shopping

Last, but certainly not least, there is a ton of shopping that all festival attendees are sure to enjoy. You’ll find a nice selection of arts, crafts, etc. to keep the entire family happy. There will be plenty of items that are ideal for the little ones as well as quite a few to please mom and dad as well.
