Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival

Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival

For the last 40 years, Sneads has hosted the largest and best festival in the county.  This year the event which is always held during the second weekend in August will be no exception.  The 41st Annual Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival will be held August 13-14, 2011. The weekend is filled with contests, Queens, parades, arts and crafts, beer and wine and other goodies that will ensure everyone has a great time.

Queens and the Parade

What would a festival be without the floats and beauty queens?  Although the festival officially starts the second full weekend in August, the beauty queens are actually introduced to the public the first weekend of August at the Shrimp Ball.  This is a formal event with reserved seating where everyone gets to meet Miss Shrimp, Jr. Miss Shrimp, Little Miss Shrimp, Tiny Miss Shrimp and Baby Miss Shrimp.

This introduction normally precedes a huge dinner and dance where the queens and their fathers dance the night away. One week later, the little Shrimp beauty queens sit atop the floats that kick off the official start of the Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival.

Other Entertainment and Activities

The Festival is filled with different foods, with the most popular being the Shimperoo.  It is a shrimp plate that contains fried shrimp, cole slaw, hush puppies and french fries. In addition to the local specialty foods, there will be plenty of arts and crafts at various booths.

Vendors are advised to register early because both the crafts and food booths tend to fill up easily.  You do not want to be put on the wait list, so register early.  And of course, for wine enthusiasts, the festival has its own limited festival wine that usually sells out every year.  So, do not wait too late to place an order.
