For the past 18 years, Sneads Ferry has hosted one of the largest salt water fishing tournaments on the east coast. This year, is sure to be no exception. The Rotary Club King Mackerel Tournament is to be held on August 20-21, 2011. It is an event that draws thousands each year, and is sure to bring a great time for the whole family.

Along with registration of entry into the tournament, each individual will receive a voucher for the Captain’s Dinner.

The Tournament

The tournament is broken up into different categories to allow for multiple winners. However, one lucky individual will win the overall with the heaviest fish. Fishermen and women are separated into three different age group categories to allow for fair competition so that everyone has the best chance at the grand prize.

Each category and age bracket is judged accordingly to guarantee that the winners have the best catch.

The tournament spans across two days, although the competition itself only lasts for one. On the day following competition the fish that are caught will be judged by weight, appearance, and to ensure that the fish is fit for human consumption. After the judging, more than $75,000 in prize money will be awarded to winners from each category and an overall grand prize winner.

With a weekend full of fishing and fun to look forward to, how can you go wrong? Sneads Ferry is legendary for its wonderful festivals and tournaments, and the King Mackerel Tournament is certainly no exception to that. This quaint fishing village turns into a swarm of fishermen and onlookers alike when the weekend of the tournament rolls around.
