Doctor Doctor I swallowed a bone.
Are you choking?
No, I really did!
OK…all kidding aside.
Have you ever relocated to a new town and within the first week, before you’ve even unpacked your medicine cabinet box to find the Tylenol, realized that you needed medical attention but you didn’t know where to go get it? I have!
Years ago, Bill and I and our three children, the youngest being only six weeks old, moved from North Carolina to New Orleans. I had never lived so far away from home and I hadn’t yet met any friends. Three days after moving, I woke up with an itchy rash all over my face and upper body. I looked up a doctor in the yellow pages and went to visit him that afternoon.
“Honey, tell me what’s been going on in your life.” I began to tell him how I moved almost halfway across the country with two kids and a tiny baby to a place that was as odd to me as a foreign country. “Honey, this is all stress related! Your body’s trying to tell you that you’re stressed out. You’ve got hives!”
Luckily for me, he was the kind, fatherly type. He gave me a shot and sent me home with a topical cream to “fix me up!” Dr. Thomas became my primary care giver by default!
How about vacation? Have you ever awakened with a fever or hurt yourself and needed medical attention? You’re on vacation and have no idea where to go find a good doctor! It doesn’t usually happen, but you may be faced with that situation one day.
I did a little bit of homework for those who have just moved into the Topsail Island/Sneads Ferry/Surf City area or for those who are be here vacationing. I hope you never need this information, but here are some vitals on a few medical facilities nearby on the island and mainland.
